Black-Eagle Predator MKII Gi Review

The Gi – Picking One Up

The MKII Predator is produced by Black-Eagle, a company based out of the United Kingdom. The gi is one of their newest models just recently released. It incorporates many of their new design qualities for both comfort and performance. Many people here stateside have not heard of Black-Eagle due to them being primarily located and targeting the U.K. market, but they have started to branch out and are now breaking into the global market. The MK II can be picked up at the Black-Eagle Online Store and usually are always in stock. They offer sizes A1 through A5 and the gi is offered in both blue and white (and soon to be black). The retail price of the gi is £79.99 which converts over to right around $131.95 making the gi in the mid price range. The gis, as mentioned, are generally in stock and are available to order. Once your order has been placed, it usually takes about 5-10 business days in order to get it to your door. Not bad considering it is coming from across the Atlantic.

Shoyoroll Batch #8 White Mamba Review

Shoyoroll Batch #8 White Mamba Review

The Gi – Picking One Up

The White Mamba is the second in Shoyoroll’s batch #8 East vs. West coast series. It was released for pre-sale in December of 2010 and landed the week of the Pans, the last week of March. As with all of Shoyoroll’s gis, these are limited edition gis and will not be reproduced. Again, once they are gone, they are gone. The White Mamba was released for pre-sale a few weeks after the East coast model, The Yank, yet because of production issues, landed before. The White Mamba represents the West coast edition of the batch #8 series. With most of my Shoyorolls, I purchased this gi during the pre-sale and then began the long wait until it landed. The gi retailed at $159.95 and again was only sold by BudoVideos.com and NHB Gear. However, as with any Shoyoroll, once it has landed the only way to pick one up is off of an auction website such as eBay. Being as the gi just landed about two weeks ago, eBay is flooded with them and can be acquired in almost any size. That being said, don’t be surprised if the price reaches in the $250+ range. The only plus side to this is because it is the most recent batch, nearly all of the gis on eBay are still brand new in the package and therefore you will not be paying top dollar for a used gi. Picking one up is still very easy as long as you are willing to spend the money to get it.

Shoyoroll Batch #7 7th Son Review

Shoyoroll Batch #7 7th Son Review

The Gi – Picking One Up

The 7th son was the second gi in the batch #7 series which was released for pre-sale in September of 2010 and finally hit the streets in December. It was a collaboration project between Shoyoroll and Luke Stewart, a world-famous tattoo artist. As I have mentioned in my other reviews over Shoyoroll gis, all of Shoyoroll’s gis are limited edition runs and are not reproduced. Once they are gone, they are gone. The 7th Son was released along side the other batch #7 gi, the Golden State. Much like the Golden State, I got this gi by sitting at my computer very early on the day of the pre-sale. The 7th Son was completely sold out in both size A2 and A1 in a mater of 20 minutes. The gi retailed for $169.95 from both distributors (BudoVideos and NHB gear). Now, however, the only way to pick one up is off of an auction website such as eBay. There are still plenty out there on eBay but they are selling for anywhere from $200 – $300 as of late. The only good thing about them being recently released is that most of those on eBay are all still brand new in the package and have not been used, unlike some of the older batches. Picking one up should not be that hard if you are willing to spend the money.

Shoyoroll Black Star Gi Review

Shoyoroll Black Star Gi Review

The Gi – Picking One Up

These gis were released back in 2009 as batch #4 from Shoyoroll. They are no longer available to buy through any vendor. The only way to pick one up now is to find one on an auction website such as eBay or if you know someone with one than you could bug them to sell it to you. Chances are, however, that they will not want to sell it, but it is worth a try. When these gis were released, they were set at retail for $164.95 (BudoVideos) and only 200 were made available (of each size I believe) in the U.S. I had seen this gi and knew it was one that I wanted. I attempted to pick one up several times on eBay but my efforts proved futile. Then, finally, I was able to get on through an auction and for a reasonable price. Every time I have seen one on eBay, if it is in any kind of good shape, then it generally goes for somewhere on the lines of $300 + and I ended up getting mine for just over $200. Now, if you can find one on eBay or some other auction website, don’t be surprised if it is in the $250 – $350 range.

I mentioned this when I did my last Shoyoroll Golden State Gi Review, and that the best way to get a Shoyoroll gi is when they go on pre-sale. Once you get your purchase, now it is a simple waiting game. However, for this gi, this no longer holds true because they were released close to two years ago.

Vulkan PRO Light Gi Review

Vulkan PRO Light Gi Review

The Gi – Picking one Up

Starting off, Vulkan has become one of the more widely available gis in recent years. They are very easy to come by and most every major jiu-jitsu gear provider will carry them. I know for a fact that BudoVideos as well as Jiu-Jitsu Pro-Gear carry them nearly at all times. If all else fails, you can always order one directly from Vulkan on their website. Another great thing about Vulkan is that a lot of schools are also distributors of Vulkan gis and with some research, you could possibly find a school in your area that you can go and get one from. As for pricing, the Vulkan PRO Light gi will run in the mid to upper price range for a gi. The PRO Light generally runs $169.98 (BudoVideos) for the white but can go up as high as $189.98 (BudoVideos) for some of the other more vibrant colors that Vulkan offer. One of Vulkan’s greatest attributes is that it is readily available for purchase.
